MP Anwarul Azim's murder planner Aktaruzzaman Shahin's house is surrounded by a garden house in Khatatari, Jhenaidah's Kotchandpur upazila city, five kilometers away.

Aktaruzzaman Shahin, a long-time friend who emerged as the mastermind behind the murder of MP Anwarul Azim, is associated with the family of Shahin. Although Shahin resides in the United States, his family members are in Jhenaidah and they have been in contact. His garden house in the secluded area of ​​Khatatari is surrounded by various types of vehicles' movements at night.

The locals say that when he came from the United States to the village, he used to stay in this house. However, they have never seen what was inside the house. Occasionally, large vehicles enter the area at night. Songs are heard emanating from there. However, no one dares to speak out of fear of the police or the law.

In Kotchandpur upazila and Elangi village, it is known that Shahin's father is Asadujjaman. He used to engage in farming and agricultural work. His eldest son, Shahidujjaman Selim, resides in the bazaar area of ​​Kotchandpur city and is a businessman who also serves as the mayor of Kotchandpur municipality. Another son, Monirujjaman Monir, has been living in the city of Detroit, USA, since 1988, working as an engineer. His daughter Khuku sometimes stays in Canada and sometimes in Dhaka. The youngest son, Aktaruzzaman Shahin, stays in New York, USA, and is a businessman by profession. The family has various business dealings in Bangladesh, India, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States.

Aktaruzzaman Shahin graduated from Kotchandpur High School in Kotchandpur upazila and completed his HSC from KM College. After completing his education, he worked on a ship. After two years of work, he got the opportunity to go to the United States through the lottery system of DV One. Since then, he has been living in the United States and has become a citizen there.

However, his brother Shahidujjaman Selim, who is the mayor of Kotchandpur municipality, could not confirm exactly when he went to America. Since being in the United States, Shahin has been involved in various businesses. He traveled to various countries for imports and exports. He was also engaged in travel in those countries. During the municipal elections, he was quite active for a few days before and after the vote.

Aktaruzzaman Shahin built a luxurious two-story house on 30 bighas of land in his Elangi village of Kotchandpur upazila. Four years ago, in Kotchandpur upazila's Elangi village, he built a luxurious two-story house on nearly 30 bighas of land, most of which belonged to Shahin himself. When he came to the area, he used to stay there. The land was once used as a brick kiln. Later, when the brick kiln closed, he inherited a portion of the land through family division.

Upon visiting Shahin's garden house in Elangi village, it can be seen that the gate of the house is locked. Two CCTV cameras are installed on the right side and above. Besides, there are many CCTV cameras around the garden house. There is a pond and a cattle shed inside the garden house. It was planned to transform it into a resort. The caretaker of the house, Safi Uddin, said, 'On the way in and out, there is a sign at the gate saying "Beware of Dogs", and no one is allowed inside. However, sometimes people come and enter inside. Occasionally, there are music programs at night, with microphones. There are often microbuses and similar vehicles entering.'

Yesterday, at the home of Mayor Shahidujjaman Selim in Bazarpara, Kotchandpur city, a discussion was held. He said, 'I talked to Shahin six days ago on WhatsApp. However, I don't know which country Shahin was in at the time. Shahin's wife and children occasionally visit. Shahin hasn't been staying in my house since building the garden house. The last time he stayed was six months ago.'

Shahidujjaman Selim said, 'We never believed that Shahin would be involved in such a heinous murder. However, the administration should conduct a proper investigation. If my brother is guilty, he should be punished under the prevailing law. We had a family and business relationship with MP Anar, which I have known for the past five-six years. However, we never knew what business it was.'

Kaliganj upazila Chhatra League's former president and organizational editor of the district voluntary service league Anisur Rahman Mithu Maliha said, 'We want the trial of the MP's murder. It may not just be Shahin who is responsible, there are many others involved. We need to find them and bring them under the law's jurisdiction.'

Upazila Juba League's vice-president Tarikul Islam Tuhin said, 'They have scattered the MP's body into pieces. I have seen that, I know that six people have been arrested. Those who are leading them should be brought under the law as soon as possible. He who has left has gone, but I want to see the body of our beloved leader Anar like the last time, I want to see the punishment of the perpetrators.'
