How MP Anwarul Azim was Killed

Anwarul Azim Anar, a Member of Parliament from Jhenaidah-4 constituency, has been found dead in India. His body was recovered on Wednesday (May 22) morning from Sanjeeva Garden area in New Town, Kolkata. Indian media reported this news, stating that after being missing for the past eight days, the body of a three-time Member of Parliament from Bangladesh's ruling party Awami League has been recovered from New Town.

It is notable that prior to this, communication with the family had been severed after going to India. On Sunday (May 19), Anwarul Azim's personal secretary (PS) Abdul Rauf confirmed the recovery of Anar's body. However, whether he was murdered or not remains uncertain.

According to Abdul Rauf, two people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Newspapers in Kolkata have headlined the incident as 'Murder' of a Bangladeshi MP in New Town.

Anwarul Azim Anar was a three-time Member of Parliament (MP)from the Jhenaidah-4 constituency and the president of the Kaliganj Upazila Awami League. Anar's personal secretary (PS) Abdul Rauf had earlier said on May 19 that Anar went to India for treatment on May 11. However, his last conversation was on May 16.

On May 19, Anwarul Azim's daughter also went to the DB (Detective Branch) office. Meanwhile, Kolkata newspapers reported that after failing to contact him, Anwarul's family reached out to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. From there, contact was established with the Bangladesh Embassy in Delhi and the Kolkata Police.

The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the police. Upon arriving in Kolkata, he stayed at the house of a friend named Gopal Biswas in Barrackpore, known to him for a long time. After staying there for two days, on the 14th, he informed Gopal that he would return soon. However, even after the next day, when the MP did not return, worried Gopal filed a missing diary at the police station. When police tried to contact him, his phone was found switched off. This raised concerns, leading to a joint effort between India and Bangladesh to search for him. Amidst this, the incident of finding his body has caused a stir.

The report also mentioned another piece of information, indicating that he rented a flat in a luxurious residential area in New Town, Kolkata, upon arriving there. He was accompanied by several people, including a woman. However, who or why someone killed him is still unclear. Meanwhile, the police from New Town station, Bidhannagar Detective Department, and HDF (High-Density Fibre) officials are investigating. CCTV footage has been found at the residence.
